FA #4 Day 2-3 (to 7am) T2/M5/1359 - 76 XP

Bandits defeated - Bareli the half orc & 4 bandits slain, bandit leader Kirla & bandit sentry Gall captured. Rest in bandit tower until morning.
______________________________________________________
Simon N. (GM):GM: The grey lines I added to the battlemap show the battlements, and the extent of the keep's donjon/central tower. The southern extension of the keep is single storey with walls 12' above the interior elevation & a peaked roof reaching to 20'.
The central tower is 35' to the battlements, same as the SE tower.
Erasmus can guard the rear for a bit. :)
Erasmus:Thanks.
brb
Kenny - Syrus:OK - if we are ready to start I have a couple of questions from where we left off last time...
Simon N. (GM):The blue rectangles are high narrow slit windows.
ok
Kenny - Syrus:(This may interest Sergor as well) - from the wolf-spider room, the husks that are hung from the ceiling that we cannot reach - can we shoot them down with arrows??
Simon N. (GM):Seems unlikely.
Kenny - Syrus:(Just thinking what goodies could be inside those husks...)
Simon N. (GM):If you could get an 8' pole you could whack em down.
Syrus (Kenny):@Team: do we want to explore the husks?
Jake C.:could we get dawn to fireball them?
Simon N. (GM):Dawn points out that a firebolt might melt the web, too...
Syrus (Kenny):@Dawn lets see!
Sergor (Jake):@Syrus I thnik that'd be a good idea. We should get dawn to cast firebolt at them
Syrus (Kenny):Syrus follows Dawn
Simon N. (GM):Dawn nods to Sergor & Syrus: "Just watch me!"
pew pew pew pew pew
Syrus (Kenny):@Dawn try not to burn whats inside!!
Sergor (Jake):@Dawn and try not to get crushed by a dead body
Simon N. (GM):Dawn: "Webs don't catch fire, Syrus, that's just a myth! But they do melt away...."
Syrus (Kenny):Syrus takes mental note about this, may feature this in a song... or not
Simon N. (GM):Repeated firebolts melt away the strands holding the first corpse and it falls - looks like a goblin.
Syrus (Kenny):Lets search this Goblin!
This Goblin does not look well AT ALL
Simon N. (GM):Syrus slices at the webbing on the desiccated goblin husk...
Syrus (Kenny):@Dawn "Nice one! Let's see what magic you can do with the other one!"
Simon N. (GM):pew pew Pew
A second corpse falls - human, likely a bandit.
One more intact corpse pew pew Pew
Syrus (Kenny):@Dawn "Nice Dawn!!"
Sergor (Jake):I'll see what the human's got
Simon N. (GM):The last one looks like an elf.
Syrus (Kenny):Syrus bows to the elf corpse.... then tries to loot it
Simon N. (GM):GM: The goblin corpse once prised out has a rusty dagger in its belt, and shoddy bits of leather armour. No cash.
Sergor (Jake):I search the human corpse for anything of interest
Simon N. (GM):Sergor searches the dead man - studded leather armour; a scabbarded longsword just slightly rusty - and a money pouch!
Syrus (Kenny):@Sergor - Nice!! :)
Simon N. (GM):The worn leather belt pouch is heavy with silver - and gold! 12gp & 34sp.
Dawn: "We should all share that..."
Sergor (Jake):I take the pouch and put on the studded armor, tossing my previous leather armor and the longsword behind my back
"There's your share, Dawn!"
Simon N. (GM):Syrus examines the elf. Looks like an adventurer, male, wears leather armour with two holstered daggers. His pouch holds an intact vial marked 'antitoxin', a set of thieves' tools, and a shattered potion vial marked 'reduce person'.
The body does seem to be getting smaller...
Syrus (Kenny):"Ohhhh"
Erasmus:What did I mis?
Simon N. (GM):Dawn looks at Sergor. "You know, you could be more polite."
Erasmus:PS I have read back
Syrus (Kenny):Syrus takes everything from dead shrinking Elf
Sergor (Jake):Responds: "I know."
Simon N. (GM):@Sergor - the armour is a pretty good fit; base AC 12.
Syrus (Kenny):OOC - does that make my AC higher now as I only had standard leather armour before?
Sergor (Jake):with my dexterity, that'd mean I'm at AC 15
Simon N. (GM):Dawn: "sigh well I suppose we're here to save those people, not just loot."
Erasmus:"Agreed. We should ensure their safety first. Looting can come after."
Simon N. (GM):The bandit had studded leather AC 12, the elf had regular AC 11 leather.
Syrus (Kenny):@Dawn - Yes M'Lady! But in order to save the Rosana'a family, we have to be well equiped to fight... Am sure there is much danger ahead...
Erasmus:To Sergor: "How many bandits did you see in the tower?"
Sergor (Jake):"At least two, but probably more"
Simon N. (GM):Dawn: "I don't think anyone lives in this old Keep..." Tenho: "No, but it could well hold the secret of the lost Dwarf Hold!"
Syrus (Kenny):Syrus puts on new armour with holstered daggers OOC @Simon - shall I now add 1 to my AC?
Percy (Christian):"shall we carry on searching this building?"
Simon N. (GM):You already had AC 11 armour Syrus, so no.
Percy (Christian):Percy will listen through this door
Erasmus:"I saw two downstairs. A half-orc and another. I believe the other was the woman who said she would check on dinner."
Simon N. (GM):@Percy all seems quiet.
Syrus (Kenny):@Team - I have another idea!!! Regarding the symbol with the door on top
We can try dragging one of these dead bodies and put it on the door that is over the symbol, and see if anything bad happens?
Simon N. (GM):Dawn: "Oh yes, that sounds good Syrus. I had an idea too Syrus, while we were resting. I have Comprehend Languages ritual in my spell book - I could use it on the symbols?"
Erasmus:"Unless Dawn has anything that could, 'simulate' one of us walking across the door?"
(From Syrus (Kenny)): I know everyone is keen to move on - shall I assume I looted the dead elf and took his belongings?
Percy (Christian):"not a bad idea"
Simon N. (GM):Dawn: "Well I have an Unseen Servant ritual too..."
@Syrus yes
Syrus (Kenny):@Dawn and @Erasmus "both ideas sounds good - what is best for you @Dawn"?
Sergor (Jake):"That gives me an idea... Would the unseen servant be invisible?"
Percy (Christian):"shall we try the bodies first as they don't use spells"
Simon N. (GM):Dawn: "Throwing the body on would be quicker - each ritual takes 10 minutes." She nods curtly to Sergor. "Yes."
Sergor (Jake):"then we could send it into the tower, to scout ahead."
Syrus (Kenny):@Team - Ok would you lot like to explaore room opposite first, or do the door thing?
Erasmus:"Reading the sigils may give us an idea as to what the effects may be, before we try disturbing. But then again, I'm not sure I want to wait 10 minutes if it means we're not looking for our quarry."
Simon N. (GM):Dawn: "It just carries things. It doesn't have eyes, or a brain."
Sergor (Jake):Laughs, quietly replying "Much like you, Dawn.."
Simon N. (GM):Dawn reddens and glares at Sergor, clenching her little fists.
Syrus (Kenny):I guess we are both quite close to each other - we can split up: one lot explore the room, while Dawn and maybe another person check out the magic symbol?? We are all on the same level
Simon N. (GM):Lothrin down the corridor yawns, bored.
Erasmus:To Sergor: "Such comments are not warranted. Perhaps we could try putting your body on the door to see the effects."
Simon N. (GM):Dawn nods to Syrus, and nods forcefully at Erasmus' comment. "Yes!"
Syrus (Kenny):Syrus thinks this could be a good time for a song to disperse the tension, but disregards the idea as it would make too much noise
Sergor (Jake):"I'd rather not. but perhaps we could throw a pider against it."
Simon N. (GM):She takes her spellbook out and starts flipping through the pages. "Comprehend Languages, here it is..."
Sergor (Jake):*spider
Percy (Christian):"shall we go through this door as i believe both lothrin and me are getting a bit bored"
Syrus (Kenny):*Syrus follows after Dawn "M'Lady I will support you"
Simon N. (GM):Dawn smiles gratefully at Syrus. "Thank you."
Erasmus:To Percy: "You're still hurt. Best you don't lead the charge."
Percy (Christian):OOC i am at full hp
" you may go firt if you wish"
Syrus (Kenny):Syrus runs back to Lothrin and whispers "if anything goes wrong, lemme know and we will rush to help!"
Simon N. (GM):Tenho looks over the door. "Seems untrapped and simple enough."
Erasmus:OOC Are you? Looked like you were still beat up. It's a different icon, ignore me!
Simon N. (GM):Dawn begins chanting the Ritual of Comprehending Words.
Erasmus:"Who would like to take point?"
Simon N. (GM):Lothrin sighs and gives the door a swift kick.
Erasmus:Follows Lothrin inside
Simon N. (GM):You behold the remains of the castle kitchen, with 2 doors opposite.
A soot stained fireplace dominates the north wall.
Erasmus:I'd like to check the fireplace.
Simon N. (GM):toppled tables, shattered crockery, rusting utensils lie about.
Percy (Christian):can i listen to this door
Sergor (Jake):I check underneath the toppled tables
Simon N. (GM):Erasmus checks over the fireplace. He gets quite sooty - it looks like one might climb up the chimney, to the roof. Bird droppings in the fireplace indicate nests above.
Percy listens - all seems quiet.
Sergor checks under the tables, finding nothing of value. Outside Dawn completes her ritual.
"I can read it, Syrus! It's Goblin!" she says excitedly.
Syrus (Kenny):@Dawn "what does it say in Goblin language?"
Simon N. (GM):""We are the Blood Moon Warriors! Our Demon Lord commands Us! Enter Our Domain and Die!"

"...It's said they and the Orcs worked together to take Skulnar. But they were thought to be extinct - but this sigil seems fresh blood, only a few days dry..."
Dawn reaches out to touch the sigil... and steps on the shattered door.

Percy (Christian):"what happened?"
Syrus (Kenny):@Team - that Sigil under the cracked door is a fire trap - @Dawn stepped on it by mistake and we got burnt :-(
Simon N. (GM):The fire subsides as the magical liquid burns out. Dawn sobs: "Oww.. I'm sorry. I got a bit carried away.".
The door is soaked in alchemist's fire and still burning merrily.
Syrus (Kenny):@Dawn "No worries M'lady, good job on the reading but let's not be so hasty next time :-P"
@Team did you guys find anything in the room?
Sergor (Jake):"We found two doors, no idea what's behind them, though"
Percy (Christian):"it looks like a kitchen and there are 2 more doors"
Simon N. (GM):Dawn: "anyone got some salve for burns?"
Percy (Christian):"sorry no"
Simon N. (GM):She looks quite scorched, but lucky not to get it worse.
Syrus (Kenny):@Team would you guys like to continue and I would like to drag the dead human body over that sigil again just to double check the trap is not expired...
Simon N. (GM):"And my dress is ruined!"
Lothrin: "You're alive, milady. I'm going to check these western doors."
Percy (Christian):percy will go with
Erasmus:"We can get you a new dress. As long as you're alive."
Syrus (Kenny):@Dawn how many HP do you have left?
Erasmus:" If I had abducted someone and was keeping them alive somewhere, it would either be behind a trap, or in a guarded tower."
Simon N. (GM):Lothrin opens the door
OOC she's on 3/8
Syrus (Kenny):@Dawn lemme drag that human corpse back here and help you with your pain
Simon N. (GM):Beyond is a buttery - the barrels now smashed and broken.
Erasmus:I'll assist.
Syrus (Kenny):@GM - please can I drag back the human body - cannot bear to drag the elf one back as I have also robbed him already :-P
Percy (Christian):pery will open the second door
Syrus (Kenny):@Erasmas will you take the Goblin body?
Erasmus:"Sure"
Simon N. (GM):GM: 2 of you drag the body back and throw it on the flames... a nasty stench rises.
Percy gets the door open.
Sergor (Jake):"i'll get one of the spiders", sergor says, marching off to the great hall
Simon N. (GM):A foul pantry is revealed - sagging shelves, dust cobwebs, rotted foods.
Erasmus:*I head back to the main doors and peek out. I'm looking to see if our actions here have alerted anyone in the tower."

The fire finally subsides.
Percy (Christian):can percy search the pantry
Simon N. (GM):GM: Percy searches through the rotten food
mould gets on his hands and clothes, making interesting stains.
Erasmus:Before we check downstairs, can someone sneaky go and check the tower again? I want to know their status."
Sergor (Jake):"i could"
Simon N. (GM):A little moonlight filters down from a skylight high above, but there is nothing of value. These rooms seem long looted and abandoned.
GM: Sergor you can try sneaking round to the bandit tower - the door?
Sergor (Jake):I exit the keep and try sneaking twoards the door of the bandit tower
Simon N. (GM):straight over green?
Sergor (Jake):before that, I check to see if there's any light coming from the tower
Simon N. (GM):There is dim firelight from both floors, as of fires burnt low. You can move your token. 6 squates at a time.

Percy (Christian):OOC you could grapple her
Simon N. (GM):The bandit is up the stairs to roof Percy so only Syrus can attack or disengage.
Syrus you can attack him
Percy (Christian):Grappling
When you want to grab a creature or wrestle with it, you can use the Attack action to make a special melee attack, a grapple. If you're able to make multiple attacks with the Attack action, this attack replaces one of them.
The target of your grapple must be no more than one size larger than you and must be within your reach. Using at least one free hand, you try to seize the target by making a grapple check instead of an attack roll: a Strength (Athletics) check contested by the target's Strength (Athletics) or Dexterity (Acrobatics) check (the target chooses the ability to use). You succeed automatically if the target is incapacitated. If you succeed, you subject the target to the grappled condition. The condition specifies the things that end it, and you can release the target whenever you like (no action required).
Escaping a Grapple. A grappled creature can use its action to escape. To do so, it must succeed on a Strength (Athletics) or Dexterity (Acrobatics) check contested by your Strength (Athletics) check.
Percy (Christian):
Moving a Grappled Creature. When you move, you can drag or carry the grappled creature with you, but your speed is halved, unless the creature is two or more sizes smaller than you.
Shoving a Creature
Using the Attack action, you can make a special melee attack to shove a creature, either to knock it prone or push it away from you. If you're able to make multiple attacks with the Attack action, this attack replaces one of them.
Percy (Christian):The target must be no more than one size larger than you and must be within your reach. Instead of making an attack roll, you make a Strength (Athletics) check contested by the target's Strength (Athletics) or Dexterity (Acrobatics) check (the target chooses the ability to use). You succeed automatically if the target is incapacitated. If you succeed, you either knock the target prone or push it 5 feet away from you.

Gall cringes at Syrus.
Erasmus:"Ok. How many more of you are here?"
Syrus (Kenny):@GM can Syrus take off Gall's helmet and gag him with some cloth over his mouth so no sound from him whatsoever?
Percy (Christian):"goblins?... the demon serving goblins?"
Erasmus:To GM: I have passive insight of 16. I want to know if Kirla is lying to me at any point, please.
Simon N. (GM):back
Syrus (Kenny):@Team I have an idea - shall I strip Gall of his armour so I can wear it and disguise as a guard? My "Disguise/Deception" skills may help with this
Simon N. (GM):Syrus gags Gall w some sack cloth
Kirla: "Brogdan and three men are off on the King's Road.. that's it."
She seems truthful.
Erasmus:"When are they due to return?"
Simon N. (GM):Kirla to Percy: "We thought the gobboes must have new leadership - they've got a lot more aggressive of late."
To Erasmus: "Up to them - a few days, most likely. Or when they get a score."
Erasmus:"Where are the goblins hiding out?"
Percy (Christian):"do you work with them?"
Simon N. (GM):She laughs at Percy. "Ha! They want us dead! Say this is their castle! They live in the old dungeons, under the Keep."
Syrus (Kenny):@Percy - then the staircase with the Sigil DOES lead to the Goblin's lair!
Erasmus:"OK. So you've had run ins with them? How many of them are there?
Percy (Christian):@syrus "that was what i was thinking
Simon N. (GM):She shrugs. "Not too many - 10? 12? 15? Just a small gang. We've killed a few, too."
(From Erasmus): how beat up are Kirla and Gall? Can we tell?
Syrus (Kenny):@Kirla - do these Gobboes know magic?
Simon N. (GM):Kirla is on 1 hp, Gall is on full hp.
Kirla to Syrus: "Not seen any magic from them - oh, they used some weird fire on our door, tried to burn it down."
"We dropped rocks on 'em." she grins.
Syrus (Kenny):Syrus takes sack cloth from Gall's mouth Do you know of these goblins we are talking about?
Simon N. (GM):Gall nods.
Syrus (Kenny):When are they most active - is there a particular time of day you see them come up here?
Simon N. (GM):Gall: "Always at night - ususally a few hours before dawn. They head out, then come back before dawn or stay out a day or two. Sometimes we shoot at em - hard to hit 'em in the dark, though."
Syrus (Kenny):@Gall - "so they are still due to come out later tonight then?"
Erasmus:To Percy: " Do me a favour; move Sergor out of the way. I don't want him in reach of anyone who might get silly ideas."
while glaring at Kirla
Syrus (Kenny):@Gall - "and how many more of you bandits are there here in these towers?"
Percy (Christian):percy will drag segor out of the way
Simon N. (GM):Gall @Syrus: "Looks like you killed everyone but Kirla and me."
Sergor (Jake):OOC Could I wake up just as I'm being dragged?/has an hour passed in-game?
Erasmus:"Let's make sure these two are trussed. I don't want any surprises."
Simon N. (GM):GM: OK you can short rest, say an hour passes, it's midnight & Sergor awakes on 1 hp
Kirla explains that the goblins don't come out every night
Syrus (Kenny):Syrus puts sack cloth back into Gall's mouth - OCC can we see anything we can tie these 2 up with??
Simon N. (GM):Kirla: "Firaen killed their chief, Ruknar, and they were quiet for a good while. Then they got stirred up again."
Sergor (Jake):After an hour passes, Sergor wakes up, looking at the two still-libing bandits. "What's this I hear about goblins?"

Simon N. (GM):@Syrus you have rope in your packs.
Kirla glares at Sergor, fingering her bloody throat.
Erasmus:Once both are tied up, to Syrus and Percy: "A word, if I may?"
Kenny - Syrus:*Syrus ties up Gall tightly
Sergor (Jake):Looks at Kirla, sheating his swords. "No hard feelings, darling. Youd've done the same" He says, grumpily
Percy (Christian):@syrus "tie the other one up as well
Kenny - Syrus:@Team whats the plan?
Erasmus:I want to be out of earshot of Kirla and Gall.
Percy (Christian):"we could go up or down stairs"
Simon N. (GM):GM: You whisper among yourselves.
Kenny - Syrus:@TEam as we sure we killed everyone here? Percy said he heard something behind a door in the other tower - could be more monsters not guards?
Erasmus:"You two are the most... convincing... of the party. How would you feel about persuading these two to join us on a foray below the keep? We keep them up front, if they die, not our concern. But, if they can help thin the numbers,or even just cause a distraction, we may have an easier time. 15 goblins aren't likely to be too easy to deal with in those sorts of numbers."
Sergor (Jake):"So, two meatshields? Sounds good. The question is, what do we do with them when they've outlived their usefulness?"
Kenny - Syrus:I think Presuation could be a really good idea! But bear in mind we haven't rested yet since we got here, and it is late - Sergor can do with a long rest to heal too as I don't have any spell slots left neither
*Persuation
Sergor (Jake):"and I could do with some rest, that's true."
Simon N. (GM):ooc rem LR is 1 week in my game
Erasmus:GM: What would a full night's rest get us?
Percy (Christian):"but if we are stealthy with the goblins we could take them in small groups cause i really don,t trust these guy especially with weapons"
Kenny - Syrus:OOC ...and do I get any spell slots back with overnight sleep?
Simon N. (GM):Overnight rest I give 1 hp/level, or 2 hp/level for a nice stay at an Inn.
Erasmus:"They don't need to have their weapons. perhaps a dagger each?"
Simon N. (GM):You'll need to LR to get spell slots back.
Sergor (Jake):OOC would a short rest work as well? And could I use my hit dice combined with a night's rest?
Simon N. (GM):You can spend your hit die on a short rest
1 hour
Erasmus:Let me run and get the others. Tenho has a healing potion, I don't know what else they can do.
Percy (Christian):"i still don't trust them as they could turn against us at any point and we have tenho, dawn and lothrin anyway"
Kenny - Syrus:OOC @Team personally I wouldn't want to go down to dungeon without any spell slots... which means staying here for a week??
Erasmus:I go and speak to the others to find out if any of them can heal.
Sergor (Jake):"well, if they do turn against us, we could kill the guard and give the other one a nice... Punishment."
Percy (Christian):OOC we could LR back in the town
Simon N. (GM):OOC it's 10 miles back to the village - 3 hours hike.
Sergor (Jake):OOC doesn't a short rest restore spell slots? or only an LR?
Kenny - Syrus:@Percy I think that would be good for Syrus
Erasmus:"I wouldn't want to return to the inn without news, but I agree it's not ideal to foray in our current state."
Simon N. (GM):Most classes need LR for spell slot recovery
Kenny - Syrus:"We can show we made progress to Rosana by showing her Kirla and Gall though?"
Sergor (Jake):"well, we wouldn't be returning without news. We could bring those two along with us, and maybe turn them over."
Percy (Christian):"it's not like we don't have news we know were they are and we have taken out the bandits"
Erasmus:"Turning them over is probably the better plan. But who knows what fate will befall those we seek in a week."
Kenny - Syrus:"Maybe we can stay here overnight, finish exploring the other tower, then head back to the inn?"
Sergor (Jake):"If I can find a healing potion, either from Tenho or in the chest, going down into the dungeon may be an option. And we could lock them in the moldy pantry."
Kenny - Syrus:"BTW did you open the chest next to Kirla, and whats that rolled up carpet next to the barrels?"
Sergor (Jake):"I'll check the chest now"
Percy (Christian) will go and open the chest in the corner
Kenny - Syrus:"I will check out the rolled carpet. maybe something hidden inside!"
Sergor (Jake):Sergor moves over to the chest, letting Percy open it.
Erasmus:"Sounds fair. We can take turns keeping an eye on this pair. I don't think there are any working lock in this place."
Simon N. (GM):GM: The chest's lock is broken
Percy gets it open, revealing Firaen's treasure hoard...

Dawn delightedly makes the trade - and Syrus makes about 10gp on the swap :)
Kenny - Syrus:Then go over to Tenho, look at his red cap and asks "would you like this fine luxury Hunters cap as a different look"?
