FA #15 17/6/1359 DR - 185 XP -The Old Chaney Tor: Qiviel, Quagg, Bronda & Praetoria

Simon N. (GM):GM: @Qiviel - the morning after the rescue of the nuns, you have collected your share of the loot from Erasmus, Abbess Mara asks you to meet her in her study.

Also present are the Battle Sisters Bronda and Praetoria, a distraught-looking peasant couple, and a gnome.
Chris T.:A bright smile creases the Gnome's ugly face. "M'lady Quiviel I believe?"
Qiviel:Qiviel nods to them sisters, then turns to the gnome. "Indeed. And you?"
Chris T.:He bows very low.
"Quagg Wenders at your service."
Simon N. (GM):Abbess Mara explains that the Jensons are shepherds at South Chaney Manor, their daughter was recently kidnapped while out shepherding - a local woodsman believes the tracks lead north to Old Chaney Tor.
Qiviel:"Quagg," she greets. "At yours."
Q listens carefully to the explanation.
Simon N. (GM):Mr Jenson: "We're desperate - Sir Chaney our lord will do nothing! Just sits there drinking all day. So we came here, miladies, sir gnome."
Mara: "Lady Qiviel, Quagg here is a friend of the Abbey and an accomplished Scout. If you would be willing to aid us in this rescue, I'm sure he'll be willing to assist..."
Chris T.:Quagg reassures them that Lady Quiviel is the very person to rescue their daughter... "With a little help of course."
Battle Sister Bronda:Sister Bronda: "He's great wee one!" pats Quagg's head
Chris T.:Quagg smiles up at her. Safely under her and beams a big smile. Quagg smiles a lot. He's a jolly little fellow.
Qiviel:"Yes, I will set out as soon as I have gathered my gear and I will be put in good stead with Quagg's company, I am sure. What is known of this Old Chaney Tor?"
Chris T.:"Up near the Froggy Lake."
Simon N. (GM):Bronda beams back at Quagg, takes a draw of her cigar and blows a smoke ring, causing Praetoria to cough slightly. Mara: "Sister Bronda and Sister Praetoria have agreed to join the expedition. I hope you are all recoverec from last night's battle."
Chris T.:"Bang between Orcs and Bullywugs. Not a nice place."
Simon N. (GM):Mara: "Once it was the seat of power of the Chaney clan, when they sought to be recognised as Barons of the Chaney Shire. But that was decades ago."
Qiviel:"We'll be glad of their companionship," she nods to Mara. "Are there others that have gone missing in the area that we should look out for?"
Simon N. (GM):Mara: "It was sacked and looted by the Bullywugs in a surprise attack. Sir Lorgas Chaney, I think his name was, died in the defence, though his daughter survived with her infant son, Randal, now Sir Randal Chaney. Since then it has lain in ruins."
Mara looks to the villagers.
Mr Jenson: "Lina Smith vanished 'bout two weeks back, too - but everyone thought she was carried off by the cultists in the Darkwood, not taken north."
Qiviel:Q makes a mentla note about the cultists for later
Simon N. (GM):Mara: "These kidnappings have become a blight on the land."
Chris T.:Quagg asks the nice couple, Mr. & Mrs. Jenson to describe the girl.
Simon N. (GM):Mr Jenson: "Pretty like my wife - 20 summers, blonde hair." Mrs Jenson nods: "Always a good girl - wouldn't run off, not like that Viola Chaney!"
Qiviel:"Viola Chaney ran away? When was this?"
Chris T.:"The little minx!"
Simon N. (GM):Mrs Jenson: "A while back now - six weeks I reckon? They say she's carrrying on with a Druid, down at Ramvira Manor! The cheek of it!"
Qiviel:Q gives a small frown. "It could be just as likely she was kidnapped and that is some story concocted. Three girls all disappearing within weeks of each other..."
Chris T.:"Well if we can find one,it's a star."
t
Simon N. (GM):Mara: "At this Abbey we are all too aware that girls can be wayward, and I can confirm Viola Chaney is safe enough... but I am sure that is not what happened here. Thank you all for agreeing to aid the Jensons."
Chris T.:Quagg again performs an elaborately low bow.
Qiviel:"We will set off as immediately to investigate," Q gives them a small bow.
Battle Sister Praetoria:Sister Praetoria: "Shall we be off?"
Chris T.:all ready here :)
Qiviel:"I shall follow whoever knows the path to this Old Chaney Tor."
Simon N. (GM):Mara: "Thank you all." She turns to Qiviel and smiles. "I feel you should be further rewarded for your efforts, and a Lady Knight should not have to walk. When you return here the Sisters will have ready for you a fine horse from our stables, with saddle and tack."
Qiviel:"That would be very kind."
Simon N. (GM):GM: Quagg knows the territory like the back of his foot. :)
Battle Sister Bronda:"Let's do it!"
Chris T.:Quagg is pleasedto lead the way then. Though he has no mount... yest :)
Battle Sister Bronda:The Jensons thank you effusively as you stand and make ready...
Qiviel:(I think he should have large corgi :D )
Battle Sister Bronda::D
Chris T.:(I'm hanging on for a Giant Weasel or Pteradactyl :D )
Simon N. (GM):GM: You head east on the main road a couple miles, then from there Quagg knows a short-cut north east through the thick forest to the Tor.
Qiviel:(A giant weasel would be hilarous but very hard to hold on!)
Chris T.:Quagg has a taste for the exotic
He darts back and forth through the trees like a pointer.
Qiviel:(Then go with a wolverine - nasty little mount :D )
Simon N. (GM):4 miles later the trees open up and you approach the old Chaney Tor, on the south side of Froggy Lake.
Chris T.:(oooo nice :) )
Simon N. (GM):The Battle Nuns grow quiet as you approach the ruins.
Qiviel:Q draws her sword and shield, holding them loosely in a ready position.
Simon N. (GM):Your tokens are in SE corner of map BTW :)
Qiviel:(got it, thanks!)
Chris T.:all working nicelt, thank you
Simon N. (GM):Stairs lead up to a shattered door on the SE side of the old manor fort. The NE corner has collapsed in rubble.
Chris T.:"You want me to take a look?"
Simon N. (GM):It looks like there are two obvious means of egress - through the front doorway or up the rubble pile.
Qiviel:Q glances down. "If you so choose, yes."
Simon N. (GM):The stairs go up about 8' to the doorway.
Chris T.:Quagg nods and scurries off on silent feet tolook more closely at the doors
Qiviel:Q moves to the base of the stairs to wait for the gnome. She scans the area with watchful eyes
Simon N. (GM):GM: The doors were shattered by a battering ram or similar. The entrance way is dank and mossy.
Chris T.:He looks closely for trip wires or other perils.
Simon N. (GM):A second, intact pair of doors lies down a 15' passage, with murder holes on either side 3' off the ground for thrusting spears etc at intruders.
Battle Sister Bronda:"It's quiet. Too quiet..."
Battle Sister Praetoria:"Aye - Can you hear it? No birds..."
Chris T.:Happy to be below the 'murder level' he creeps in sticking to the west wall.
Battle Sister Praetoria:Quagg can roll Perception
Qiviel:Q raises her shield in response, turning to look at the area around them with more care.

Simon N. (GM):No signs of traps, and the far doors appear unlocked, though with scuff marks - most likely a restraining bar on the far side was broken.
There's now a slight gap that Quagg can look through into the dark room beyond.
Chris T.:He listens for any sound of movement from within?
Simon N. (GM):He listens - he can see a door opposite, daylight under it. Suddenly he hears a soft ribbit from past the door!
Chris T.:He goes superstealthy.
Creeping back to tell the others. "Bullywugs!"
He also warns them of the murder holes.
Stealth roll needed?
Battle Sister Bronda:(no, your passive Stealth is 17 :) )
Bronda: "Hit 'em fast?"
Chris T.:"And I'll hit 'em low."
Battle Sister Bronda:"hee hee"
Qiviel:"I am not stealthy," she shrugs. "Fast is more my style."
She does her best to creep up the stairs
Chris T.:"I'll be right behind you!"
Qiviel:She raises her shield and charges the door
Battle Sister Praetoria:casts Shield of Faith on Qiviel
Simon N. (GM):Qiviel +2 AC for 10 minutes
Qiviel:She grins under her helm at Praetoria
Simon N. (GM):GM: The doors burst open at Qiviel's charge.
You hear urgent croaking through the far right door.
Qiviel:She follows the noise
Battle Sister Bronda:"You want a buff too Wenders?"
Chris T.:Having moved only 20' Quagg would liketo hide here, bow ready.
"Maybe later!" He winks outrageously
before disappearing into the shadows
Battle Sister Bronda:There's no cover for hiding where you are right now, Quagg
Chris T.:Okay
He was hoping behind the broken door but no probs.
Arrows stillready.
Battle Sister Bronda:they burst open inwards of course :)
